The Ropen is a flying dinasaur-like creature that is reportedly lives in Papua New Guinea. It is a large nocturnal creature that glows briefly as it flies and has a tail-length more than 25% of its wingspan. It is investigated in the episode "Ropen & Chupacabra".

Rumors have long circulated of this giant, Pterodactyl-like creature flying over Papua New Guinea. Reportedly, the Ropen avoided the cruel fate (euphemism for "extinction") of its Jurassic brethren by seeking refuge in caves that dot the islands of Umboii and Salamaua. These great winged beasts —which possess leathery wings, a flanged tail, teeth-lined beaks and razor-sharp claws —are reputedly nocturnal, and eyewitnesses have made consistent mention of glowing red lights in the night sky —a possible indication of bioluminescence emanating from within the airborne creature's torso.
